Woorim

Woorim is a suburb and town located in the southeastern area of Bribie Island. Much of the area’s north and west make up part of the Bribie Island National Park.

Its name was derived from the Aboriginal Kabi word, wurama, which means “red-backed sea eagle”.

There are some residential areas here, though it’s also a popular tourist spot. Hotels and resorts can be found in and around the suburbs, and there is a small shopping centre that houses a few shops carrying a range of essentials.

The town’s main highlight is the stunning stretch of surf beach, which is a family-friendly destination and recommended for people who love active beach lifestyles. Fishing has become a top pastime here, as bay and beach fishing are both catered to in areas that aren’t crowded.

Ocean Beach in Woorim is the nearest surf beach north of Brisbane, so it’s no surprise that it’s become a surfing hot spot over the years. However, Moreton Island protects Bribie Island from the southern swells, so waves are between .5 and 1 metre on average, though there are instances when they can be much larger. Swimming is generally safe when the waves are low but should be avoided when they exceed 1 metre.

For visitors looking for a rugged experience, check out the Bribie Island Caravan Park. It’s a terrific place to locate yourself as you explore the rest of the island; it offers a range of accommodations, including suites, cabins, villas, and campsites. There is on-site parking, and its facilities include a camp kitchen, amenities blocks, an outdoor pool, tennis court, and playground.

Keep in mind that if you intend to drive on the beach, you’ll need a permit and a four-wheel drive.

Woorim is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, so don’t miss out on it.
