Eudlo

Eudlo is a small town on the Sunshine Coast. Its name is derived from the Aboriginal word for ‘freshwater eel‘.

This town has a rich history, dating back to the 1860s when timber workers and cattlemen arrived.

The land wasn’t ready for agriculture until the 1880s, and in 1891 part of the North Coast railway line that travelled from Landsborough to Yandina finally commenced operations. This saw the town’s development beginning, though the economy only truly improved starting in the 1910s.

Driving through Eudlo is perhaps the best and most scenic way to discover this charming area. The drive can take you through the lush countryside just below the Blackall Range. If you are coming from the Bruce Highway, the township can be reached through Kiel Mountain, but you can also take the Razorback road. If you come from MontvilleMontville, you can also take Razorback road.

Eudlo is where the Chenrezig Institute is located, which is a famous Buddhist and meditation centre. It was established in 1974 and was among the first Tibetan Buddhist centres founded in the West. Today, it’s among the largest and is also affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. Chenrezig Institute is home to a Tibetan teacher, several monks and nuns, and a community of volunteers, students, and guests who live harmoniously all under one roof. It’s a world-class Buddhist retreat for anyone who wants to explore meditation, learn Buddhism, take up workshops on the psychology of Buddhism, art, and mental health.

While here, a visit to the Eudlo Creek National Park is highly recommended. It’s an important conservation park in Diddillibah – not too far from the town centre. This park will take you on a wonderful journey through the countryside, stunning green hills and verdant forests, which are home to rare flora and fauna.

Eudlo is an incredible destination for visitors looking for a one-of-a-kind experience. Check out the range of accommodation options nearby, including some holiday houses, bed and breakfasts, cottages and retreats.
