Rainbow beach is the perfect launching pad for those with a taste for adventure and who would like to swim with dolphins, explore Fraser Island and see the nearby rainforests.
Rainbow Beach Attractions, Activities & Things to Do on the Sunshine Coast
Rainbow Beach is located immediately north of the Great Sandy National Park, one of the most loved natural attractions on the Sunshine Coast. The park stretches over 56,000 hectares and is divided into two sections; the “Cooloola” section on the coast between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach and the “Fraser Island” section which encompasses almost all of Fraser Island.
Popular activities within the national park include walking trails, scenic drives, hiking, canoeing, picnicking and camping. The best way to see Great Sandy is by walking or four-wheel-driving as the sand tracks are rough. You can also access the Great Sandy by travelling up the Noosa River by kayak or small boat which can be hired from the Boreen Point and Elanda Point private camping areas.
During your visit to Rainbow Beach, make sure to check out the Carlo Sand Blow, Double Island Point Lighthouse, Poona Lake and Inskip Point. These natural attractions are one of a kind and whilst gazing out into the water, you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins, turtles, dugongs, sharks and other marine life.
Camping is available in the Great Sandy National Park, however, permits and fees apply. If you are looking for accommodation in Rainbow Beach, then there are a range of options including family-friendly apartments, B&Bs and a resort. There are also a number of accommodation options over the river at Tin Can Bay.
