Goat Island

Goat Island, Maroochy River Canoeing & Kayaking, Maroochydore QLD

The pleasant, if somewhat urban and busy lap, can be some of the clearest water of all the Maroochy River paddles. You may see stingrays, fish of various sizes and of course, seabirds. The circuit is 4.3km long and is described as an intermediate difficulty but is stated as being suitable for beginner kayakers.

When you reach Goat Island, look out for the wreck of the “Gneering”, a steamer that serviced the river and was wrecked on the Maroochy River bar. It was later towed to Goat Island and left as a wreck there.
