Participating teams should prepare all the items needed for the relay, including comfortable walking or running shoes, sun protection, warm clothing, a marquee for their site, team costumes, marquee decorations, wet weather gear, and folding chairs and tables.
The Sunshine Coast Relay For Life also welcomes under-18 Teams, though participants must show a Parental Consent Form. Interested individuals can also register as Survivors or caregivers because the event seeks to unite the community to celebrate survivors and remember those we have lost to the dreaded disease while empowering others to raise money to fight cancer.
Survivors and Carers can walk the Lap of Honour or show up to participate in the celebrations. In addition, the committees will choose a Face of Relay and a Patron of Relay each year; these are people who have survived cancer or lost someone to it, worked with the Cancer Council Queensland, or have taken care of a loved one with cancer.
The Cancer Council was founded in 1961, initially as the Queensland Cancer Fund, to respond to the growing need for cancer services around the state back at the time. Today, they have over 200 volunteers, while hundreds more are registered. Thanks to such events, they are getting the help they need to provide vital services to the community.
The Sunshine Coast Relay For Life is a moving event that presents the perfect opportunity to give back.
