Maximum Adventure Race Series

The Maximum Adventure Race Series events are all about exhilarating adventure races that are short and fast.

They are designed to be completed in pairs, with the ultimate objective being for each team to learn how to have fun while navigating and completing the courses quickly.

Short, fast, fun, and suitable for anyone and everyone with a real sense of adventure, the Max Adventure Race Series events are designed to offer the perfect introduction to the exhilarating sport of adventure racing.

Designed for teams of two, the overall objective of the Max Adventure Race Series is for you and your teammate to have fun, navigate and complete the designated course (both teammates together completing each discipline, not in relay format) in the minimum amount of time possible, by visiting each of the checkpoints in turn by navigating the course by foot, mountain bike and kayak.

Each event has a Classic distance and a Novice distance course available, depending on your ability and experience. These non-stop events will take two to six hours to complete, so there is never any time to get bored or tired, as you will be constantly challenged throughout the race, physically and mentally!

The course is kept secret until the day of the race, only to be revealed at registration, when you will be issued your race bag containing a map and course description instructions. Each course will require some basic navigation skills with a compass (teams must bring their own) and the ability to read a topographic map.

The Classic Course consists of approximately 15-25km of mountain biking, 5-10km of trail running and 2-4km of kayaking.

The Novice Course consists of approximately 5-15km of mountain biking, 3-5km of trail running and 1-2km of kayaking.

It’s important to note that each discipline will have multiple legs, adding to the distances quoted above. So you may be doing more than one bike, run and kayak leg.

Suppose you are new to adventure racing and are looking for an exciting challenge that lives up to your love of the outdoors and action-packed adventure. In that case, the Max Adventure Race Series events are a great way to experience what this exhilarating, growing sport is all about.

Suppose you are an experienced adventure racer or have completed a few races. In that case, the Max Adventure Race Series events are the perfect opportunity to step up in course distance, hone your efficiency, and chase that PB or podium position.

All participants must supply their own mountain bike and helmet for each event (two per team). Mountain bike hire is available for all events. You must also carry your own nutrition and hydration (using a backpack/hydration pack) as there are no aid stations on the course and all other equipment requirements.

The Kid’s Course will involve trail running, mountain biking, and kayaking legs (please note: there is no kayaking leg for the Sunshine Coast event), along with simple navigation. There will be approximately 1-2km of running, 2-4km of biking, and 500m of kayaking.

The Kids Course will be marked with arrows to help guide our young adventurers to the checkpoints. However, some map reading is required in the spirit of Adventure Racing. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to join their kids on the course to help with this.

The kayak legs of the race will be completed using a Toyboy Voyager II sit-on-top two-person kayak. The kayaks, paddles, and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are supplied on the day and are included in your entry fee.
