The Maleny Wood Expo is a massive three-day woodwork exhibition held on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
This expo aims to promote the sustainable use of native wood and provide a fun country event suitable for the whole family.
Maleny Wood Expo 2025 Dates, Wootha Prize & Workshops, Qld
In addition to the feature exhibition, the Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize—a prestigious national woodworking competition—there are woodworking workshops for all ages, children’s activities, live music, street performances, delicious world food, fine coffee, tool and timber sales, sustainable living displays, native plant sales, live demonstrations, educational talks, and more! You can even take home a freshly milled slab!
Established in 1996 by Barung Landcare, the Maleny Wood Expo promotes the sustainable use of our beautiful timbers through the work of local and regional wood artisans. The Wood Expo is Barung Landcare’s biggest fundraiser for the year, with all proceeds from ticket sales going back into future Wood Expo events and regional projects that help protect our local environment.
The Maleny Wood Expo is now recognised as one of the best wood shows in Australia and has been bringing wholesome, family-friendly fun to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for over two decades. 2025 marks the 26th year of the Maleny Wood Expo!
The Maleny Wood Expo offers diverse activities, workshops, exhibits, demonstrations and educational talks. There is something for everyone!
The Wood Expo has everything timber, from native tree seedlings, mobile milling, and slabs to furniture and sculpture. It also features hand-crafted products by furniture, toys, musical instruments, box makers, whittlers, and carvers, demonstrations by chainsaws, woodworking tools, and equipment experts.
Proudly sponsored by Sunshine Coast Council and hosted by Barung Landcare, the Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize is the feature exhibition at the Maleny Wood Expo. The competition showcases beautiful and sustainably crafted pieces from wood artisans and furniture makers from all over Australia.
The 2025 Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize is an open-themed entry, inviting applicants to express themselves through their work in any of the Furniture, Sculpture, or Tiny Treasures categories.
This year, they have also introduced a new stand-alone prize category: ‘Evolve’. This category acknowledges newer craftspeople and seasoned individuals who have dedicated a lifetime to tinkering in sheds or collaborating within woodworking groups, alleviating the pressure of competing against recognised professionals.
Limited parking is available at the Maleny Showgrounds for a gold coin donation (please bring cash). All proceeds will go to Rotary Maleny. Parking is also available in the surrounding area, requiring an easy walk to the Maleny Showgrounds.
If you incorporate a stroll from Coral Street along the Obi Obi Boardwalk, you may even be lucky to spot a platypus! You are encouraged to use public transport where possible. The nearest train station is Landsborough.
Please do not bring your pets to the Maleny Wood Expo to ensure a safe experience for all visitors. Assistance animals are accepted.
So come to the Maleny Wood Expo and experience something different on the Sunshine Coast.
