If you want to spend a few days discovering the Yurol State Forest and nearby bushlands, the Pomona Caravan Park and Showgrounds is the ideal place to base yourself in. Pomona is such a lovely country town situated at the base of Mount Cooroora. There are several leisurely walking tracks for visitors to explore. It’s also steeped in history, with the first settlers arriving back in the 1880s. Here, you’ll find the oldest running silent cinema in the world, the Majestic Cinema. It was established in 1921 as Majestic Hall and initially used to host silent movies plus sports events and social gatherings. Today, they still show a range of silent shows and films.
Learn a little about local history by visiting the Noosa Shire Museum while you’re here. It houses a fascinating display of photos and other artefacts, as well as a room dedicated to the Gubbi Gubbi people, who were the original settlers of the area.
