The Wappa Dam is one of the primary drinking water supplies for the Sunshine Coast, located in stunning open parklands and a short walk that takes you to the waterfalls.
Located near Yandina, the dam is ungated, allowing the waters to flow freely and safely out once it has reached 100% capacity.

Today, Wappa Dam is one of the best places to go for a nature trip. The gorgeous environment offers lots to do, mainly picnicking, hiking, and mountain biking. There are facilities such as picnic tables, parking areas, a playground and more, which make it suitable for the whole family. Just be careful to supervise your children – especially when heading towards the falls. A major highlight here is the Jack Harrison Park, located on the banks of the dam.
One of the best times to visit is during Autumn, as vibrant red maple leaves provide a beautiful contrast to the lush greens around you. However, keep in mind that swimming is not allowed here. Always pick up after yourself and avoid bringing domestic animals to ensure that the water supply is always clean.
For those who want to go swimming, head over to the nearby Wappa Falls. Wear shoes with a good grip if you intend to visit the falls since the rocks are notoriously slippery. There is also the option of parking right by the falls since it’s only a short walk away from the parking lot.
Wappa Dam and its surroundings are a must-visit while in the area.
