The Des Dwyer Walkway is a 550-metre-long walking path that leads to a stunning beach cove in Shelly Beach.
The walkway’s name pays homage to a famous, well-loved mayor of Caloundra who had many notable achievements for the local community. He settled in town back in 1938 and passed away in November 2013.
The Des Dwyer Walkway, Beach Access, Walking Track, Shelly Beach Qld
The Des Dwyer Walkway is just one of the many beautiful sights to see while in Caloundra. This beautiful oceanfront area boasts white sands and sea views for many miles. However, the beach is unpatrolled, so there are hardly ever any crowds, making it ideal for people looking for some quiet beach time. The beach faces east, so it’s also a great place to jog, walk, or run to before you enjoy the sunrise. Better yet, why not enjoy a solo beach stroll?
Shelly Beach is also renowned for its rock pools, which are ankle-deep yet abundant for marine life. They have become favourites of kids who visit, as they like to look for little marine creatures hiding in the crevices, such as blue periwinkles, black sea cucumbers, and rose barnacles.
After exploring the beach, visit the nearby park, which is equipped with tables. Here, you can have a beach picnic and spend time with your loved ones. The corner store also sells coffee and light snacks that are best enjoyed with the view and fresh air.
The Des Dwyer Walkway is one of many fantastic beaches that await you on the Sunshine Coast.
