Noosa Botanic Gardens

The Noosa Botanic Gardens is an 8-hectare garden paradise with dozens of exotic and native plants.

It’s located in Cooroy, a picturesque hinterland town on the shores of Lake Macdonald.

The land once served as farmland, though by 1987, a government funding community employment program helped jumpstart the construction of the gardens. It opened its doors to the public in 1990; it’s been considered one of the most beautiful attractions of the town. The facilities include an open-air chapel, lily pond, spacious lawn areas, fern house, kids’ play area, Greek-style Amphitheatre, composting and permaculture section, drinking water, and toilets.

The Noosa Botanic Gardens is open to volunteers who are passionate about plants; the current volunteers meet on-site every Thursday, though there is also lots of work to go around in the form of fundraising, tour guides, general support, and educational programs. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, get in touch with the Friends of Noosa Botanic Gardens. But if you don’t have the time, they are also open to donations.

Aside from taking in the spectacular surroundings and nature here, you can also hire the gardens as a venue for events, weddings, and ceremonies. Though there are no BBQs, two electric BBQs can be found on the foreshore that adjoins the park, beside the boat ramp. Car and bus parking is available at the garden entry in Lake Macdonald Drive. Though vehicles aren’t allowed inside, they can cater to the disabled who require a wheelchair. The gardens are also a dog-friendly destination but are sure to keep them on a leash at all times.

The Noosa Botanic Gardens is a magical, unforgettable place to visit – so be sure to bring the entire family along.
