It was established as part of an initiative by the Queensland Government to encourage more of the local community to prioritise health and fitness.

The complex also serves as a home to the Noosa Lions Football Club, Sunshine Coast Cycling Club, Noosa Triathlon Club, and Little Athletics Noosa.
The Girraween Sports Complex is equipped with a clubhouse, a club room that can fit 100 people, first aid rooms, referee rooms, toilets, senior and junior football fields, a 915m cycling track, and an athletics grass track. However, the criterium cycling track is a major highlight here.
It’s a new recreation facility featuring a self-contained road circuit, where cyclists of all levels can train in a safe and modern space away from other vehicles. It’s ideal for all riders, whether you ride socially or professionally. Additionally, the track can be booked for events when not in use.
It’s good to know that the facilities are operated in an eco-friendly manner whenever they can. Some of the efforts made to reduce the environmental impact include recycled water irrigation, degraded site, filtration swales, bio-retention, and revegetation in the complex perimeter.
The complex has hosted numerous significant sporting events in the past, such as the New Zealand National Junior Triathlon Training Camp, the U19 Australian Criterium Championships, the yearly Noosa Gift Sprint Race, Queensland Criterium Championships, and many more.
The Girraween Sports Complex is a must-visit for any sports enthusiast while on the Sunshine Coast.
