Dunethin Rock is an iconic landmark along the Maroochy River. Famed for spectacular views of the river, tranquil mangroves, and cane fields, the area is best explored on foot and will reward you with stunning sights.
The rock is significant as it resembles the development of tourism during the early 1900s in the area.
Dunethin Rock, Campground, Picnic Tables, History, Maroochy River QLD
Dunethin Rock takes its name from Maroochy’s timber-logging past as well. Logs were once rafted from the Maroochy River to the point where the rock is located, and from there, they were transported to the sawmills in Brisbane via boats.
If you want to have a relaxing lunch, there are covered picnic tables here. After visiting, check out the lake and the stunning pontoons, perfect for watching sunsets; bring along mosquito repellent. The mangrove banks are a popular place for fishing mangrove jack, flathead, and bream.
For other exciting activities in the Maroochy River, visit Chambers Island. Located right in the middle of the river, the island can easily be accessed through a footbridge. The island’s white-sand beaches are perfect for swimming, relaxing, and water sports. Kids will enjoy playing in the playground, while families can gather in the picnic area.
The Aqua Park Bli Bli is another favourite attraction of the young and old alike. It features a floating adventure park where visitors can spend the day on trampolines, slides, blast bags, balance beams and more, all right on the water.
For all your exciting holiday needs, Dunethin Rock and the surrounding attractions in the Maroochy River are always a great idea.
