The Cooloola Recreation Area has several locations within the park, each with its own unique attractions. At the Bymien day-use area, stay for a picnic while taking in the tropical rainforest views and hear the birds chirping. It’s equipped with picnic tables so that you can have a meal before you set off for a four-wheel-drive adventure or continue bushwalking. Choose from several scenic paths, including the Dandathu circuit, Poona Lake Walk, or the Cooloola Great Walk, which can all be accessed from here.
The Fig Tree Point day-use area is another beautiful location in the park. There are picnic tables, non-flush toilets, and wheelchair access available here. It’s surrounded by stunning greens, ideal for relaxing or having a few snacks right by the river as you are serenaded by birds that fly over the nearby wetlands.
The Freshwater day-use area is perfect for tranquil BBQs by the quinine berry trees, and it’s just a short walk away from Teewah Beach, where you can cool off. The Freshwater area is a popular stop for four-wheel drive enthusiasts and is equipped with electric BBQ pits, flush toilets, picnic tables, and wheelchair access. There are informational signs that help learn about the Cherry Venture wreck and the history of timber and sand-mining.
