The museum’s permanent displays feature the Matthew Flinders 1799 expedition, Ian Fairweather’s life and art, and a massive collection of preserved fish from Moreton Bay from the 1900s.
The gallery itself is beautifully designed and well maintained. Lots of natural light flow within, and the design utilises polished hardwood and timber slats. It promises a fantastic day for the whole family to soak up culture and history with magnificent views.
The Bribie Island Seaside Museum also houses a shop selling a curated array of seaside novelty items, handmade jewellery, history books, toys and games for kids, fishing guides, décor, and much more. Opposite the museum is a small carpark, though street parking is also available nearby. A toilet is available onsite.
Before visiting, it’s recommended to check which exhibits are on. Other cultural attractions are nearby; the Bribie Island Arts Centre and the Abbey Museum of Art and Architecture are recommended.
The Bribie Island Seaside Museum is located at 1 South Esplanade in Bongaree.
