Meanwhile, the shore of the Baroon Pocket Dam is a thriving habitat for local wildlife such as kangaroos and koalas. It’s no wonder that the area has become a paradise for visitors who love nature, bushwalking, and the outdoors. Bring along comfortable shoes if you want to hike; there’s much to see on the cross bridges, open forest ridges, boardwalks, and even the Baroon Lookout from where you can take in vistas of the Obi Obi Gorge, the dam as well as its catchment area.
The dam was completed back in 1989 and has become a vital recreational destination for the community and visitors. The dam is an important water source for the region and makes up part of the SEQ Water Grid. However, note that it’s ungated, so it tends to spill outside yet safely when the water reaches its full capacity. For those interested in visiting, be sure to check the spill schedule of the dam.
The Baroon Pocket Dam is a unique, must-visit destination on the Sunshine Coast.
